The higher the BTU number specified, the higher the water heating efficiency. BTU is used to measure the output of each burner on a gas stove/grill. A home gas stove will typically put out about 7,000 BTU per hour, but some models will put out as low as 3,000 BTU and as high as 12,000 BTU.
