Air-Source Heat Pumps Air-source systems are the most commonly installed heat pumps. They have two parts: an indoor unit (air handler) and an outdoor unit (heat pump). A refrigerant, which circulates between the two units through tubing, absorbs and releases heat as it moves back and forth.
