You can’t install an air source heat pump in a listed building or scheduled monument without planning permission. If you are in a conservation area or on a World Heritage Site you can’t install it on an elevation that fronts a highway.

Do I need planning permission to install a heat pump?
In conservation areas and World Heritage Sites, heat pumps should be installed at ground level and should not be fitted on a wall or roof which fronts a highway. If your home is a listed building or on a site of a designed scheduled monument, planning permission, and in some cases listed building consent, may be required.
